Guardianship Workshop
Protect Your Children in One Afternoon
You know you need to name a guardian for your kids. This is the afternoon you actually get it done.
Join Jillian Cardona, estate planning attorney and mom, for a hands-on workshop built around one goal: by the time you leave, your children’s guardianship documents are signed, notarized, and done.
Nomination of Temporary Guardians
This document names someone who can step in immediately if you’re in an accident, hospitalized, or otherwise unreachable — before your permanent guardian can get there. It exists so your children are never, even briefly, in the hands of someone you didn’t choose, and it typically covers only the short window until your named permanent guardian arrives.
Nomination of Guardians
This is the document that legally names who raises your children long-term if something happens to both parents — in the order you choose, not a judge’s. It lets you name a primary guardian along with backups, so your children are protected even if your first choice becomes unable to serve down the road.
Notarized Documents
Notarization is what turns your written wishes into a document the court will actually rely on — a notary confirms your identity and that you signed willingly, which protects the document from being challenged later. Without it, even a carefully thought-out guardian nomination can carry far less legal weight when it matters most.
